STATIC ELECTRICITY

Static electricity refers to the build up of electric charge on the surface of objects. The static charges remain on an object until they either bleed off to ground or are quickly neutralized by a discharge.

Although charge exchange can happen whenever any two surfaces come into contact and separate, a static charge will only remain when at least one of the surfaces has a high resistance to electrical flow (an electrical insulator).

The effects of static electricity are familiar to most people because we can see, feel and even hear the spark as the excess charge is neutralized when brought close to a large electrical conductor (for example a path to ground),

or a region with an excess charge of the opposite polarity (positive or negative). The familiar phenomenon of a static 'shock' is caused by the neutralization of charge.

Static electricity can reside in people, clothing or tools etc.

The static electricity must be discharged to EARTH before handling any delicate electronic components or computer components.

Use of Magnetic tools should be avoided at all times.

CANTILEVER SIGNAL GANTRIES – PLASTIC KITS

SIGNAL STRUCTURES – PERIOD 1950’s to 1970’s

These signals were principally designed for areas of where the signals would be exposed to high gusting winds and possibly be covered with up to 2 foot of snow.

Also used in restricted area’s where space was minimal and where support wires could not be installed. I.e. On high viaducts over cities or upon exposed tracks leading to high bridges. They were originally designed and installed during the 1950’s to the 1970’s. After the 2^nd World War supplies of steel were very restricted with the Steel Mills concentrating their efforts in manufacturing steel for rebuilding Britain’s cities. It was channels, angles and “I” sections that were available along with flat steel plate, so during this period these materials were used to design railway structures. In later years round and square tubes became more readily available.

The original signals were originally designed by James Lyon (et al) whilst employed at the Railway Signal Co Ltd, Liverpool, for use in and around Central Scotland.

Signal power wires and connectors are all hidden from view. Easy installation and maintenance of Signals, wires and connectors.

THIS RANGE OF SIGNAL GANTRY KITS WILL MAKE A VARIETY OF MODELS TO SUIT YOUR LAYOUT – SIGNAL HEADS NOT INCLUDED IN KITS

For a platform model just reduce the height of the central stansion. The cantilever arms can be increased or reduced.

Not included in kit.

To assemble these kits you will need a cutting mat and a sharp modellers knife plus a small hole drill.

Cut out the plastic parts and just cement them together. Plastic cement is NOT included

Rotary Switches, needless to say, have a rotary switching movement. They will be needed when the number of circuits that need to be changed

simultaneously exceeds the capacity of a toggle or slide switch.

A7, A8, A9 & A10 ROTARY SWITCHES – Will cover multiple switching roles where more than two circuits need to be simultaneously switched - for example if three or four track controllers are being used for ‘cab control’.

This switch can be used to unlatch relays by momentarily interrupting the power supply

to the actuating coil.

All are water resistant and require between 12 and 25 volts AC or DC at a maximum of 1.5amps to operate. Suggest the use of a CDU
