DCC COMPONENT CARE

RETURN OF ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS

Definitions:

Product:  A complete item that is ready to be used by the customer on their model layout.

Component: A item that needs to be installed by the customer into an electrical or electronic circuit.  The customer needs the necessary knowledge and skills to undertake this correctly and safely.  Numerous HELP & ADVICE GUIDES are available. We also sell a range of Model Railway Technical books.

http://www.modeltrainsuk.co.uk/books-for-modelling-37-c.asp

When Electrical & Electronic Components are returned for any reason by a customer they are firstly placed in a clear plastic container together with any correspondence.

Product inspection

The items are inspected for any physical damage caused in either manufacture or if any damage caused by the customer.

Electrical and electronic components are usually installed by the customer into an electrical or electronic circuit.  It is the customer’s responsibility to READ and UNDERSTAND all instructions contained with the components and to read all GUIDES as directed by the supplier.  The customer is requested NOT to open any component packaging until they are satisfied that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to safely and securely install the components or to seek professional advice locally or to contact us direct for advice.

The Model Railways - NEW Technologies

We provide numerous customer HELP, ADVICE and QUIDANCE documents.  It is not sufficient for the customer to glance through these documents.  They are there to be read several times so as to be fully understood.  In some cases the content is NEW TECHNICAL INFORMATION especially for new comers to Model Railways plus for older people who are returning to Model Railways after a break from the hobby.   Customers should NOT assume that things are the same as they were 5 to 10 years ago. Model Railway component technology has moved on in leaps and bounds.

Things are NOT AS THEY USED TO BE !!!

Customers are advised to access these documents on their computer before ordering any electrical or electronic components and then before opening any component packaging that is delivered by the supplier to the customer in a secure postal box.

These products are delicate and need careful handling by the customer in order to avoid any physical damage or electrical circuit damage caused by incorrect installation or the use of an incorrect power supply.  The correct use of tools is also very important.

FINE WIRE HANDLING

DCC WIRES ARE VERY DELICATE AND ARE MANUFACTURED FROM A FINE SINGLE STRAND METAL WIRE BEING COATED WITH A LACCURE INSULATION THAT WILL CRACK AND FRACTURE IF BENT, TWISTED OR MISHANDLED IN ANY WAY - THESE WIRES MUST BE UNCOILED  NOT PULLED STRAIGHT FROM THE WIRE ENDS - THIS PULLING ACTION WILL CAUSE IMMEDIATE DAMAGE WHICH WILL CAUSE A SHORT CIRCUIT & PERMANENT DAMAGE TO THE PARTICULAR COMPONENT AND OTHER COMPONENTS WITHIN THE CIRCUIT WHEN POWER IS APPLIED.

WITH ANY COMPONENT WITH COILED WIRES - USE A NON-STATIC WOODEN IMPLEMENT LIKE A COCKTAIL STICK TO GENTLY UNCOIL THE WIRES.

COILED WIRES MUST BE UNCOILED (NOT PULLED) VERY CAREFULLY TO AVOID DAMAGE TO THE INSULATION – PULLING FINE WIRES FROM THE WIRE ENDS WITH METAL TOOLS LIKE PLIERS OR TWEEZERS, ( INSTEAD OF GENTLE UNCOILING ), WILL CAUSE TWISTING AND FRACUTUE OF THE WIRE INSULATION.

DO NOT USE ANY METAL OBJECT TO UNCOIL THE FINE WIRES !!!!    COMPONENTS WITH WIRES THAT ARE DAMAGED BY THE CUSTOMER WILL INVALIDATE ANY WARRANTY OR MANUFACTURERS GAURANTEE ON ALL PRODUCTS WITHIN AN ELECTRICAL AND OR ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT.

RETURNS

Any components supplied within a group of products that are returned, will be inspected as a collective set of components, as they will usually have been installed within an electrical and or electronic circuit by the customer.

Physical Damaged to components caused by the Customer

Any components and or products returned will be covered by the manufacturers guarantee.   I.e. if all the necessary procedures have been undertaken correctly.  If we consider that the customer has damaged or misused any component and or any component has been incorrectly installed, it will NOT be covered by manufacturers guarantee.

We reserve the right to obtain a second opinion in respect of any component returned by a customer.  We also reserve the right to request any relevant information from the customer in respect of their use, handling and the installation of components.

We also reserve the right in exceptional circumstances to return components to the original manufacturer.

If we consider that any component (including wiring) has been damaged by the customer and the component or components have been installed into a circuit by a customer, all returned components would be considered collectively.  If customer damage has been detected and it can be seen with the naked eye, that product will be photographed as proof of Customer Damage and for photographic evidence of the damage.  If any other related components were installed within the same circuit they will also be inspected.  and if found to be faulty due to customer error, they will be removed and destroyed in order that they cannot, by mistake, be supplied to another customer at a later date.  This is normal QUALITY CONTROL PROCEDURE to ensure that any damaged component or components do not re-enter the supply chain.

Electronic components and or circuit boards contained within a circuit – If physical damage has been caused by the customer to any component (including wiring) within a circuit, it is likely that it will have caused damage to all the components within the customer installed electrical circuit, especially when power is applied and a short circuit occurs.

Electronic components and or circuit boards will not normally display any outward damage or look faulty to the naked eye.  They will be tested and if found to be faulty due to customer error, they will be removed and destroyed in order that they cannot, by mistake, be supplied to another customer at a later date.  This is normal QUALITY CONTROL PROCEDURE to ensure that any damaged component or components do not re-enter the supply chain.

A Customer damaged component may look to be in good order from the naked eye but if it has been found to be faulty, or installed with another faulty/damaged product and or other fault, possibly caused by incorrect installation or damage caused to any other damaged component within a circuit or an electrical short circuit that has occurred when power has been applied to the circuit. In this case will invalidate any guarantee or warranty.

If a component is found to be faulty within the manufacturing process it will be replaced or a refund made to the customer.  This is subject to our TERMS & CONDITIONS of TRADING and any manufacturers guarantee.

Customer’s communication.

If a customer has any query, problem or complaint regarding any component supplied, they are requested to contact us immediately for HELP & ADVICE

I.e. Before returning any products or components to us.  Tel: 01588 660 580

If any customer is not satisfied with any decision that we make, we suggest that they contact the manufacturer. The manufacturer’s name and address will be supplied upon request.

It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure that they are qualified or have the necessary training and skills to install purchased electrical or electronic components.
