The following
notes are intended as helpful hints to enable you to get the best out of your
Card Model.
Children under
14 years of age need to be supervised and directed by an adult.
Tools. You will need the minimum of tools to
complete your models. We recommend that the minimum you should have is:-
1. A sharp scalpel type craft knife and spare blade. 
2. A straight edge to cut along, either metal
or hard plastic. 
3. A pair of
scissors. 
4. A cutting mat. 
5. Glue of your choice. Try it on a
piece of scrap card first !!! 
6. Felt tip
pens or coloured pencils to touch up bare edges and corners.
Try a sample
piece of scrap card first !!! 
Use sparingly - Beware that colours don’t
run !!! Colour edges before applying any
glue sparingly.
7. Additional pieces of card to strengthen your building internally or for
adding floors and walls.
9. Model spray
sealant. (Matt or
Satin).

Please follow the
following simple steps
Start. First remove the contents of your card kit and
place everything into a suitable shallow container. This prevents the loss of small detail
items. Check that everything that should
be in the kit is there before commencing construction. Read any instructions enclosed.
Precut Card Kits. Place the card kit components upon a Cutting
Mat and use a sharp Modeller's Knife plus a straight edge to gently separate
out the individual items.
If you just
pull them apart you might end up with slightly torn or damaged edges. Children under 14 years of age should be
supervised when using glues and modeling tools.
Bare cut
edges. You
can use coloured pencils or felt tip pens to turn the cut edges from white card
to a suitable colour to that of the printed material. Do a test first and make sure colour does
not run. Apply colour’s before assembly.
Allow colour to dry well, before applying any glue sparingly. Undertake a number of tests - first on scrap
pieces of card. Too late if you mess up
the real thing !!! Practice makes
perfect – an old saying.
Adding
strength to your building. You
might like to add rooms and floors within your buildings. This will give added
strength to your model. A good source of
card – Sometimes coloured, can be obtained from your local Picture Framing Shop or small factory
unit. You might like to add furniture
but make sure that you can get in and out of your rooms to make changes. Fit
corner pieces first before adding floors. (See below – Glue in corner
pieces to support floors.)
Gluing. Use glue sparingly. More glue will only make the
paper or card wrinkle and the drying time will get longer. Glue only one thing
at a time, and let the assembly dry a few minutes before moving on to the next
step. We recommend that you use either a
Instructions. We do supply a basic set of instructions.
These are there for your convenience. They give you the ideal procedure
to complete the model. Whilst they are there as a guide, we do recommend
that the order be followed. The instructions include a finished
picture of the model, and again this should be used as a guide.
Adding
detail. If required, it is
possible to add extra internal and external detailing items such as gutters,
down pipes, curtains, interior décor and lighting. These should be added at the

You might like
to add furniture but make sure that you can get in and out of your rooms especially

Lighting. If adding lighting to a room, please ensure
that you use a low wattage bulb that does not give off too much heat. LED’s are
the best as they use very little electric current.
Sealing your model. You may wish to use a spray sealant to protect
your model and extend its life scale or you might wish to whether it. Try it on a piece of scrap card first !!!
